As Oro Navigacija provides air traffic control services within the airspace of the Republic of Lithuania, the enterprise seeks that the services would ensure maximum benefit for the airspace users and the society. Therefore, while planning our activity we rely on sustainable, efficient and environmentally-friendly solutions, this way we transfer to sustainable economy.

We have set an ambitious vision of becoming a reliable airspace developer and executor of aviation solutions. The goal we have established for our enterprise, namely, introduction of innovative solutions (technologies, procedures) in the airspace of the Republic of Lithuania and neighbouring countries would assist us to make the vision come true.

The latter goal would also enable to contribute to the objectives of Single European Sky/ green course:

  • to reduce the amount of CO2 generated in the course of every flight by 10 percent until 2035;
  • to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gas by 55 percent until 2030 in comparison to 1990;
  • to achieve climate neutrality until 2050;
  • to encourage and appreciate the initiatives and responsible approach.

CO2 emission

It is important to mention that the provision of air navigation services itself does not generate air pollution directly, nevertheless, Oro Navigacija may contribute to decreasing the pollution generated by other participants of the aviation sector, by ensuring safe, fast and efficient movement of the aircraft. This would enable all the air navigation service providers in Europe to jointly decrease the consumption of fuel by 6 percent.

The following measures are invoked for reaching the goal:

  • free route airspace, when the aircraft pilot may select a straighter and shorter route upon entering this airspace;
  • consistent take-off/ landing operations, enabling the aircraft to fly steadily, thus, consuming the fuel economically and making less noise;
  • interactive systems/ solutions for communication with the aerodromes, when links of the aviation chain communicate and exchange information expeditiously, ensuring the flights without additional delays;
  • various SESAR technological solutions, which are not yet in high demand within the airspace of the Republic of Lithuania due to air traffic that is not very intensive, nevertheless, it is important to have the opportunities evaluated.

Noise

While still receiving complaints from the residents regarding the noise caused by aviation activities in Vilnius, in February 2019 Oro Navigacija and Lithuanian Airports signed a jointly prepared document “Vilnius Aerodrome Noise Reduction Plan for 2019-2020”. The purpose of this document was to ensure that noise sources and groups of measures for controlling it are identified even as the flights flows at Vilnius International Airport increase, this way seeking to reduce the inconveniences caused for the residents.

Oro Navigacija introduces the changes in aircraft routes, which have positive effect on noise reduction. Moreover, the number of training and coaching flights at the surroundings of Vilnius aerodrome was decrease in cooperation with Lithuanian Airports, enabling to significantly reduce the noise.

Air quality near the aerodromes

Air quality is influenced by not only the aircraft traffic, but also by the aerodrome ground transport, equipment used at the aerodromes, their access routes and etc. The zone monitored by Oro Navigacija encompasses only the electromagnetic fields generated by the navigation and surveillance equipment located within the territory of the aerodrome and equipment emissions, therefore, when solving the equipment modernisation and possible replacement matters, the latter aspects will be taken into consideration, if necessary.
