The number of flights handled in the Lithuanian airspace in February 2018 made up 16.6 thousand and was by 10.1 per cent more than in the same period last year. Three fourths of this number were transit flights; compared to last year, the number of aircraft overflying the territory of Lithuania increased by 10.7 per cent and made up 12.47 thousand.
According to data of SE Oro navigacija, provider of air navigation services in the Lithuanian airspace and Lithuanian airports, air traffic controllers handled 2.8 thousand aircraft taking off from/landing at Vilnius airport, i.e. by 10.6 per cent more than in the same period last year. In February, the number of aircraft movements in Šiauliai airport made up 363, i.e. by 11 per cent higher than last year. Compared to 2017, the numbers of aircraft taking off from/landing at Kaunas and Palanga were slightly lower, making up 583 (less by 2.5 per cent) and 217 (less by 7.2 per cent), respectively.
During the first two months of 2018, air traffic controllers handled 34.9 thousand flights in the Lithuanian airspace, more by 8.2 per cent than in the same period last year. Out of this number, 26.2 thousand were transit flights; compared to last year, the number of aircraft overflying Lithuania increased by 8.7 per cent.
More than 30 thousand flights are daily performed in the European skies. Lithuanian airspace has been included into air routes of over 900 air companies. To ensure that flights are operated safely, efficiently and on time, air navigation services are provided to aircraft from the moment of launching an engine and starting from a parking area to the moment of landing at an aerodrome of destination. These services in the Lithuanian airspace and Lithuanian airports are provided by SE Oro navigacija.
