On 29 January 2018, the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC) coordinated an operation in search of a pilot of a paraglider, which, reportedly, had been noticed falling. As paraglider was not found, the search and rescue operation was cancelled.
About at 1 p.m. the ARCC was informed by the General Help Centre that a man in the village of Kudoniai, Kaišiadorys District, saw a falling paraglider in the distance.
Upon receiving the message, the police were sent to the reported site of the event. The Air Force helicopter MI-8 took off from the search and rescue post in Kaunas to reconnoitre the above-mentioned territory from above.
The search and rescue operation was taking place for a few hours, a territory of about 15 square kilometres was reconnoitred.
Approximately at 3.15 p.m. the search and rescue operation was cancelled. The paraglider was not found. Thus, the information submitted via the General Help Centre has remained unconfirmed.
