More Flights Handled This Summer

In August the number of flights handled in Lithuanian airspace made up 23,201, i.e. almost by 5 per cent more (1,050 aircraft), if compared to the same period last year. The number of transit flights grew most significantly. During the last month of summer, air traffic controllers provided services to almost by 9 per cent more aircraft overflying Lithuania, if compared to the last year’s.

In August 18,459 aircraft crossed Lithuania by transit: almost by one and a half thousand (1,497) more aircraft were handled, compared to the same month in 2016. In August air traffic controllers also provided services to 4,742 aircraft movements from/to Lithuanian airports.

Compared to the same period last year, in August the number of movements at Lithuanian airports was less by 447, due to the runway reconstruction works in Vilnius airport and redirection of flights to Kaunas in July-August.

This summer, compared to that of 2016, the number of flights handled was higher throughout the three summer months. In June the total number of aircraft – overflying Lithuania, taking off from and landing at Lithuanian airports – made up 23,353, and was by 6.2 per cent higher than in the same period last year. In July the number of flights in Lithuanian airspace was the largest out of all three months of summer: it made up 23,521, i.e. by 3.3 per cent more than in the same period last year (22,769).
