In September the number of flights in the Lithuanian airspace increased by 8%, compared to the same period last year, and the total number of flights over the nine months of this year increased almost by 4%, compared to the same period in 2016.
In the first month of autumn, the number of flights handled in the Lithuanian airspace was 23,194. Out of this number, three fourths (17,502) were transit flights. The rest (5,692) were flights taking off from or landing at Lithuanian international airports. Thus, air traffic controllers handled by 1,737 flights more, compared to September of last year.
The largest number of aircraft movements (4,006) was handled in Vilnius (by 2.9% more than in the same period last year); over the same period the numbers of and the increase in aircraft movements (compared to September of last year) in Kaunas, Šiauliai, and Palanga were 743 (3.34%), 494 (33.15%), and 442 (12.18%), respectively.
Over the period January–September 2017, the total number of flights conducted in the Lithuanian airspace was 183,945, including transit flights (76%). The number of aircraft movements in international airports of Vilnius, Kaunas, Šiauliai and Palanga made up 43,999. The total growth of flights in Lithuania over the nine months of this year made up 3.96%, compared to the same period in 2016.
During the nine months of this year Oro navigacija’s air traffic controllers handled most flights taking off from or landing at Vilnius airport (28,307). Over January–September air traffic controllers in Kaunas, with the assistance of their colleagues from Vilnius Aerodrome Control Centre in summer, handled 9,684 flights, and controllers in Šiauliai and Palanga, 3,803 and 3,552, respectively.
According to preliminary calculation, over the period January–September Oro navigacija’s operating revenue from charges for the en-route and terminal air navigation services made up 22 million 580 thousand euros, i.e. was by 5.6% more than in the same period last year (21 million 306 thousand euros).
Revenue of the enterprise is comprised of charges for air navigation services paid by air companies – users of these services. The operating revenue makes up about 99% of the total revenue of the enterprise.
