In the first half of this year the air navigation service provider Oro navigacija handled more than 114 thousand flights, i.e. by 3.1%, more, compared to the same period last year.
Transit flights over the Lithuanian airspace made up three quarters (75%) of the total flight number, reaching slightly more than 85 thousand. Additionally, services by Oro navigacija’s specialists were rendered to almost 29 thousand flights departing from and arriving at the international airports of Lithuania in Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga, and Šiauliai.
In the period January–June 2017 most flights in the airspace of the Republic of Lithuania were performed by 5 air companies: the Finnish airline Finnair (10,9 thousand, less by 5.1% compared to the same period last year), the Latvian Air Baltic (9,9 thousand, more by 10.5%), the Russian Aeroflot (8,8 thousand, more by 0.8%), the German Lufthansa (8,4 thousand, less by 3.2%), and the Irish Ryanair (6 thousand, more by 7.7%).
Of the four international Lithuanian airports, Vilnius airport came most popular in the period January–June 2017. The number of aircraft movements at this airport made up 20 678, i.e. more than three quarters (77.2%) of total movements at airports of Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga and Šiauliai.
In the first half-year aircraft movements at Kaunas airport (3968) made up more than one tenth (14.8%), while at Palanga their number was 1863, i.e. 7% of the total number of flights handled at Lithuanian airports.
The number of flights to/from Šiauliai airport made up 1%. Most of departures from and arrivals at Šiauliai were military aircraft operations (181 out of 267, or 67.8%).
In the first half-year the largest number of aircraft movements at Vilnius airport was performed by Air Baltic (2988, i.e. more by 18.7%, compared to the same period last year). According to the number of aircraft movements at Vilnius airport, on the second place was Ryanair (2981 flights, more by 22.8%), and on the third place – Lufthansa, with 854 aircraft movements at the airport of the Lithuanian capital, i.e. more by 18.8%, compared to last year. According to this indicator, Finnair and Aeroflot were on the fourth and fifth place, with 742 and 723 flights respectively, and the increase by 8.5% and 1.3%, compared to the first half of 2016.
The largest number of aircraft movements at Kaunas airport was performed by Ryanair (1795, less by 9.5%, compared to the same period last year).
In the period January–June, the largest number of flights to/from Palanga was performed by Air Baltic (444 flights, more by 25%, compared to the same period of 2016). Ryanair was on the second place, with 160 aircraft movements, i.e. more by 196.3%, compared to the same period last year.
Revenue of the enterprise is comprised of charges for air navigation services paid by air companies – users of these services. The enterprise receives no financing from the state.
